Events

The events featured at SEAMC 2007 will be:

Relay
Teams are lined up in a row and each given a different problem to solve. No communication is allowed. Student number one passes the answer back and student number 2 uses that answer to complete the problem. Student 2 passes the answer back to student 3 who uses that answer to complete the relay. The relay must be completed within 3 minutes. This event counts 10% of the team score.

Energizer
Teams of 3 are sitting around a table. At the start, one designated student runs along a certain path to pick up problem #1 from a grader. The runner returns to his team to complete the problem. After the team solves the problem, the runner follows the designated path to the grading table. If the problem is correct, they receive problem 2 and returns to his team. If the problem is wrong, the student can decide to continue working on that problem, or pass and pick up the next problem. There are a total of 25 problems and teams have 45 minutes. This event counts 20% of the team score.

Team Lion Competition
Teams of 3 sit around a table. Problems appear on the large screen and teams have a designated time to solve the problem. The Lion Competition lasts about 50 minutes. This event counts 20% of the team score.

Individual Competition
Individual students sit in a large room and problems appear on a screen. Students have 2 minutes to complete the problem and then the next problem appears. Problems will be multiple choice and your score is the number correct. There will be 2 round; one on Friday and another on Saturday. Each round will have 25 questions. Each round will count 20% of the team score.

Long Term Questions
On Thursday night, each team will be given a packet containing problems that can be solved at any time. These problems will count 10% of the team score and must be turned in (1 per team) by noon on Saturday.

The Amazing Race and Math Trail
On Friday afternoon, buddy teams will set off on a race to discover Singapore. Each team will consist of 6 students from 6 different schools. Students will need a digital camera, so they can take pictures of places to prove they visited the sights. Teams must use public transportation and complete the race at the Singapore Zoo. Penalties will be assessed for cab rides.

Project Adventure
On Saturday afternoon, teams will rotate from station to station, completing activities in the gym. Each activity will last 10-15 minutes and points will be awarded for completing the activity.
