| Transferring to SAS
Each year SAS greets as many as 200 new high school students. Some have switched schools frequently in the past, but for others it will be the first time they've left home. You can be certain that we will do all we can to welcome you to our campus.
It's the mission of the SAS Peer Support program to help all new students feel welcome. When you arrive in Singapore you will meet a peer "buddy" who will try to make your transition as quick and easy as possible. Your counselor and teachers will also do their best to help get you acclimated to your new school.
One of the things you will want to do is review the information on SAS courses, Advanced Placement options, graduation requirements, and extracurricular activities. This information and much more can be found by browsing through the high school web site. All of us look forward to welcoming you to your new school.
Developing Your Schedule
You are welcome to develop a tentative schedule of courses in advance of your move. When you arrive in Singapore you will meet with your counselor to review this information and make any needed changes. In some cases it will also be necessary to meet with teachers before a final schedule can be determined. Once the SAS Admissions Office has notified the Counseling Office of your acceptance and definite intentions to enroll, your course requests will be added to our computerized scheduling system. It is helpful to complete the admission process as early as possible since your course requests cannot be entered until the process is concluded. New students are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis so by registering early you'll be more likely to get your preferred courses.
Your Counselor
he Singapore American School counselors strive to assist students in achieving success in all aspects of their lives. Three counselors work with students in grades 9 and 10, while five focus on the more specific counseling and college advisement needs of students in grades 11 and 12. Each counselor serves an equal portion of the high school with the division based upon the first letter of a student's last name.
