The TOEFL has changed and the format varies by country and the new version is rolled out worldwide. If you are taking the test in Singapore, it and is now "Internet based" and offered downtown. It is not offered on the SAS campus. The test assesses skills through "integrated" tasks that require the use of more than one skill at a time. For instance, test takers listen to a conversation and then speak about what they heard, or read in a passage, or they'll listen to a part of a college-level lecture, and then write about what they read and heard.

Over the years TOEFL has changed. It used to be paper-based, then became computer based, and is not Internet-based. Each time the test was redesigned, a new score format has been introduced. TOEFL has created tables to help people compare performance on different versions of the TOEFL.

In many college guides you will find a TOEFL requirement of 550 or 600, which is for the paper version score. Use this chart to convert your scores to one of the other scales. If you are confused about these three different scales, see your counselor.
