Each year the SAS Counseling Department evaluates how we are viewed by students, parents, and admission officers. The honest feedback we receive helps us make changes in the programs and services we offer in future years

Survey Results

Freshmen - Each February the current freshman class is asked to complete an anonymous survey about their experiences at SAS. You can download the results for the Class of 2013.

Seniors - Each May the most recent senior class completes an anonymous survey about the Counseling Department. These students have completed high school and experienced a number of years of services from the department. We think these students - our primary client - provide the more reliable feedback about how we are doing. We are pleased with how they view us. You can download the results for the Class of 2010.

Alumni - Each year the most recent alumni are asked to complete a survey about SAS. While the response rate is generally only about 50%, the results are helpful in understanding what our most recent graduates think about their SAS and college experiences. To provide more data we have combined the two most recent graduating classes. You can download the combined results for the Graduating Classes of 2008 and 2009.

Parents of Seniors - Each May we ask the parents of seniors to provide feedback on the SAS Counseling Department. While the level of response is lower than we would prefer, the results do give a sense of how the parents of students who have gone through SAS feel about the department. You can download the results.

Admission Officers - Singapore American School is fortunate to have more admission officers on campus each year than perhaps any other international school in the world. Every few years we our admission colleagues to complete an an anonymous survey about their visit. You can download the most recent survey results.

Admission Results

It is difficult to quantify how the college admission results at SAS compares to our "peers". The first issue relates to exactly what constitutes a peer school. For example, SAS has a significant program for students needing academic support. At most international schools, students with special needs are not served. SAS is also essentially an open enrollment school for US citizens residing in Singapore. Other international schools often are more selective about the students they admit. Details about acceptances from the most recent graduating class along with matriculations is available.

Comparing SAS to US public schools is also problematic. Once all of the Australia, Japan, and Korea admission decisions are available and the National Service males complete their obligations, nearly all of the SAS students will go on to a four-year college. This compares to 44 percent of all public high school students, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

Most US private schools practice selective admissions. Exeter, for example, typically admits only about 20% of the students who apply to their high school. Obviously if you can choose to admit only the best and brightest students from an already competitive applicant pool, you can dramatically change a high school's college admission results.

With these caveats in mind, SAS students are remarkably successful in their quest for admission to selective colleges. You can download documents which show the percent of SAS graduates admitted to top 50 US New's liberal arts colleges, top 50 US New's national universities, or the Forbes list of top 50 colleges and universities. On these charts, SAS acceptances are compared to the overall pool of acceptances as reported by these colleges.
