Selecting 2010-2011 Courses. Current SAS students in grades 8 through 11 are now selecting the courses they would like to request for next year. Information about the process and courses can be found on the HS website. Students who are new to SAS will be asked to submit their requests to their new counselor beginning in April.

Financial Aid/Scholarships for International Students -  March 16, 7 pm in H301 Audience: junior parents whose students are non-US passport holders

Early Action/Decision Results. SAS seniors have learned of early acceptances at the following: Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, New York University, Northwestern, Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, and Yale (and remember that neither Princeton nor Harvard have any early programs). Podcast: College Information Night for Parents of Juniors. On December 9, 2009, the department presented our annual College Information Night. You can download the PowerPoint and listen to the podcast:

SAS High School Profile. Each time a transcript is sent in support of a college application or if a student is transferring to another high school, a High School Profile is sent. This document gives a snapshot of SAS and gives context to the people reviewing an SAS transcript. Our 2009-2010 Profile is now available.

SAS Counselors at Major Summer Conference. The five counselors who work with students in grades 11 and 12 all attended the annual Overseas Association for College Admission Conference in July in California. Counselor Dale Ford moderated two panels attended by admission officers related to the recruitment of students in Asia. Over 500 admission officers and international school counselors were at the conference.

Special Instructions for SAS Students Taking the SAT. The SAS SAT test center is "private" and requires a special set of instructions. If you are an SAS student and want to take the SAT here, registration can be done online, but it requires an extra step. If you do not follow these instructions, you will not be able to see the SAS test center when you register. Login to your Family Connection account, click "home" and then "from my school" and you will find details on how to register.

How did we do? Each year we ask the people we work with to provide feedback on how on the SAS Counseling Department. Here is the summary of what we found.

College Information for Parents of Freshmen and Sophomores. In October, Counselors Dawn Betts and Beth Kramer presented at the PTA coffee on early college planning for 9th and 10th grade students.:

Parent Reading List. During the summer some teachers assign reading assignments to their future students. The Counseling Department decided that we would also offer some book titles - for parents. Click here for suggestions.

Counselors speak at CIS and ECIS conferences in Europe. Beth Kramer and Frieda Dietrich gave presentations in Munich and Hamburg, Germany on topics related to college counseling this past November. Over 500 HS counselors and college admissions officers were in attendance at this major networking event.
